About This Station
The station is powered by a an Instromet weather system. The data is collected every 2 seconds and the site is updated every 5 to 20 secs. This site and its data is collected using Met4Net software and Weather Display Software. The station comprises an anemometer, a sunshine hours recorder, an automatic high precision rain gauge and a thermo-hydro sensor situated in optimal positions for highest accuracy possible.
The operating system used is Windows XP as Met4Net software does not work on later Windows versions. The Windows XP is run as a Virtual Machine using VMware and the operating system is Ubuntu Linux. This makes it easy to change computers should a fault occur. The Windows XP is virtually totally inaccessible from the internet.
The station is at an altitude of 623 feet (190m) and is close to the Sidlaw Hills. The weather is often cooler than locations at lower altitudes or closer to the coast, though, during east haar conditions, Auchterhouse often has higher temperatures.
