Welcome

This is the site of a weather station in the village of Kirkton of Auchterhouse in Angus, next to the Sidlaws. The village is at an altitude of 190 metres. In consequence, there is a microclimate here where the weather can be quite different from that closer to the coast and to the Dundee area. One unusual feature of this station is that it measures sunshine hours, which seems to be almost unique in Scotland's web based weather stations. The station is privately operated, and data is updated every 30 minutes. (Use your browser's reload/refresh button to ensure you have the most up to date data). Various options are available by using the menu on the left hand side.

The weather station started operating during 1996, but it was connected to the Internet for the first time in October 2006. There are Auchterhouse records going back considerably earlier than 1996 which permits interesting comparisons of weather trends.
